'Uncaged'
This body of work is an exploration into trickery, imagination and the world of traps and trapping. I wanted to encourage the viewer to inspect closer to investigate the material.
Through an amalgamation of techniques and processes, I have produced a collection of ceramic cages. By extensive experimentation, I have developed a process by which I am able to control the natural tendency of the clay to sag. I can exploit this element of distortion to my advantage.
Extruded clay, which has been carefully layered, creates a caged canopy over porcelain and metal inlayed bases. In areas, the fragile strands of the cages have been replaced with handmade silver chains to show a sense of preciousness reflecting the subject of the original source books.
I am excited to present my fresh and innovative approach to ceramics, which was lauched in 2010. This body of work has been exhibited in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London, Mint design shop as part of London Design Festival and in Derby representing myself as UK Young Artist.
