“Dr. Barbara Daniel, head of MSc in Forensic Science at King's College London, talks about her experience with creating narrated powerpoints to help the students with their education.”

In a very short space of time teachers have to upskill all students in all the basic subjects in order to ensure that participants are starting on the same grounding level. Some students are masters level in one subject, others in another. They all need to be masters level in both subjects. In the students first exams they tend to do not very well, so further support is needed. – Good justification argument.


I could apply this to my practice by saying that although all of my students are told that to sign up to my course they are required to have an intermediate knowledge of clay work, I often find that my students sometimes might say that they are intermediate level, but on the day of teaching, from my point of view, they might only have basic knowledge. This means that often I have to take more time supporting these students, resulting in my actual intermediate students just waiting around. Further prior support is needed to start the synchronous lesson at the same level of understanding.

This gives a higher value of student teacher contact time when we have synchronous learning, rather than just spending the time delivering the facts.

Challenges – the technical expertise, I-spring is a free download to record. Has a good clear slide sorter. Accessible on phone and computer.

-nerves, recording, stumbling. Just relax, seem normal, relatable, don’t worry about perfection. Not aiming for a sterile recording.
