What 'reflective practice' currently means to you:

Alice Walton

I see reflective practice being a positive activity in which you look back and review your teaching and interaction with students. I have begun to see this as an important integrated activity for myself and the students to improve learning for all involved. I look at what went positively within a teaching session and where there is room for improvement. I believe that it is important to actively adapt your teaching to not only keep up with changing technologies, curriculums, and themes around your subject but also to evolve practices to keep teaching exciting for you and your students

When I worked at Brighton University, I found it useful when engaging with new students to find out about students previous making experience prior to their class. This not only allowed me to tailor my practical making demonstrations or a make-along workshops to the students, but also enabled me to gather information at the end of sessions to see how successful I had been. I could then begin to adapt and reflect on my teaching to best facilitate the students’ needs in the future. This was particularly helpful when working with students with different learning needs such as languages.
